Welcome to my thought box. Calling it my thought box probably makes this section of my website sound much more interesting than it really is. Over the years, I have written a hand full of non-fiction works such as articles, political essays, expanded reflective thoughts, things too big for a blog, etc. These writings are important to me, and they are interesting to me, though I fear that some might find them... just a little bit dry. This portion of my website is intended to provide a forum from which to publish these works. Not all of these writings are polished or ready for publication. I will try to give each piece enough of an inspection before posting it such that, if you are a literary masochist and decide to read beyond this introduction, at the very least, you will not have to bare with mind-numbing, eye-crossing proof reading issues.

The world doesn't need fewer people. It just needs fewer stupid people.

When you have a big family or come from a big family, you often become the subject of people's blatant and public commentary. More often than not, the commentary is positive. People tell you what a beautiful family you have, and they are amazed by the good behavior of your seven children. They seem to appreciate the challenge that you have taken on. They often have a few children of their own and they express commiseration regarding the difficulties of raising children. It can be heart warming, and it makes for a great ice breaker.

Less often but more memorable, come bitter or accusing comments about an over populated world or the selfishness of having large families. Sometimes, in tones ranging from vicious to humorous, someone might say, "You know, they've found a cure for that!" or "You really should watch more TV." Others might be sufficiently indigent or politically motivated enough to call you something like an "Environment Criminal". For all those critics of us daring to bring more children into this world than will just replace our own existence, I offer the following thought for your consideration, "The world doesn't need fewer people. It just needs fewer stupid people." The way I see it, my wife and I are actively fighting to tip the balance of the world's population in the direction of caring, intelligent, engaged human's here to solve the big problems.

Our children are a blessing to us and we are struggling to raise them in a manner such that they will be a blessing to this world. Not everyone can be so fortunate as to have the physical, financial, or emotional means to have a large family. Others simply don't like children. Some believe that they are doing the world a service by not creating more mouths to feed. Regardless, consider the impact that you are leaving upon this world. Unless your name is Ghandi or Mother Teresa, your greatest opportunity to contribute to how this world plays out, will be your children. Each child represents a life that is full of energy and potential. If you consider your thoughts and beliefs worth anything more than dirt and worms, then you will share them with your children so that they can share them with their children. If you cannot have children, then it is worth every penny to adopt. If you cannot adopt children, then become a school teacher. If you consider yourself to not be a stupid person, then share what you have.
